According to computerandvideogames.com Nintendo has indicated that they may have indie games available for purchase through the Wii Shop sometime in the future.
It will be interesting to see what form the “programming system” that Nintendo refers to will take.

I only have the wireless controllers, so haven’t tried it out, but it sounds cool!
